Wyler's 1927 answer to the dropped watch was a balance wheel with arms that flex. This 1950s survivor still runs — the listing says so.

| Verdict | The running statement changes the maths. At this money the risk is cosmetic, and the cosmetics are honestly listed. |
What it is
Start with the balance wheel. Paul Wyler patented the Incaflex in 1927: a balance wheel whose two curved arms are flexible, so a knock flexes the wheel instead of snapping the balance staff. Where rival systems protected the jewel bearings, Wyler made the wheel itself the shock absorber. The dial of this 1950s watch carries the name in full: Wyler Incaflex, Waterproof, Swiss.
The watch itself is a period survivor: a 31.5mm stainless steel case, hand-wound, a silver-toned dial with large Arabic numerals and an outer minute track, on an expandable metal bracelet. The listing gives case markings 21950 and 1904 9, thickness 9.5mm, weight 41.1 grams. Listed by Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette.
Why it matters
Most Goodwill watch listings say nothing about running, and the honest default is to assume a service. This one states the opposite: tested, and it runs. That single line moves the piece out of the project pile. What remains is cosmetics, and the listing is straight about those too — scratches, some discoloration, a scratched crystal. A 1950s Swiss mechanical with a genuine technical idea inside it, running, at a $29.99 opening bid: the Finds lane working as intended.

What to check before bidding
- "Runs" is a statement, not a measurement. No accuracy or amplitude is given. Budget for a service even on a runner.
- The wear is stated, so price it. Scratches, some discoloration and a scratched crystal are in the listing and the photos. A crystal is replaceable; dial condition is forever.
- "Waterproof" is a 1950s dial word. It is not a current water-resistance rating. Treat the watch as splash-vulnerable and keep it dry.
- Bracelet fit. The expandable bracelet is listed at 5.5 inches — short. Check it against your wrist before bidding.
