Photo: ShopGoodwill listing (seller: Goodwill Industries of the Columbia Willamette)
Diver shape, everyday job — a Y2K-era Seiko tool watch in stainless, not ticking, and priced like it.
Verdict
| What it is | Seiko diver-style quartz watch, Y2K era — stainless case and bracelet, black dial, unidirectional bezel, framed day-date, 50M per the dial |
| Price | $40, 2 bids, spotted Fri Nov 6, 2026, 2:14 PM PT |
| Where | ShopGoodwill auction #282608317 — ends Sat Nov 7, 2026, 4:14 PM PT |
| The angle | The full diver layout — bezel, sword hands, luminous markers — on an ordinary quartz Seiko that nobody preserved, priced as a project |
| Verdict | The seller states it plainly: crystal lightly scratched, currently not ticking. Bid as a non-runner and it can only surprise upward. |
What it is
The listing titles it plainly: "Men's Y2K Era Seiko Diver Style Quartz Watch." Stainless steel case and band, 38×9mm case per the seller's measurements, a black dial with luminous hour markers and hands, a day-date window at 3 o'clock, and a unidirectional bezel with minute markings. The three-link bracelet closes with a fold-over clasp.
The seller's condition wording runs here as written: "Crystal has light scratching"; "Currently not ticking." ShopGoodwill items are untested and sold as-is, and this listing is no exception — the running state is a known negative, not an unknown.
Why it matters
Diver styling became the default sports-watch language, and Seiko applied it at every price point — including quartz models built for daily wear rather than collecting. Pieces like this are the honest end of that story: worn, stopped, donated, and auctioned for the price of a strap. For a tool-watch rotation, a 38mm steel Seiko with a real bezel is the shape worth reviving — provided the bid remembers it needs work first.

What to check before bidding
- It is not ticking — the seller says so. A stopped quartz can be a battery, a movement, or corrosion. Bid on the worst of those, not the best.
- Crystal scratching is stated, light. The listing photos are the only measure of "light." Read them, not the adjective.
- No reference is given. Without a caseback number in the record, movement and parts research waits until the watch is in hand.
- The auction clock is short. It ends Sat Nov 7, 4:14 PM PT. Shipping was listed at $4.99 in the detail record — confirm at checkout.
