What it is
The DX was Seiko 5 dressed for town. Where a base Seiko 5 keeps its movement plain, the DX line added the features collectors actually hunt: the 6106 inside hacks and quicksets, which base Seiko 5s never did. This reference, the 6106-8010, wears them under a silver sunburst dial with applied baton indices and a framed day-date window at 3. The dial is signed DX and 25 jewels, and the watch sits in a silver-tone cushion case on a steel bracelet, per the listing title and photos.
The seller states the condition in full: “Watch currently does not work and may require repair,” and the band is missing a few of the small connecting links. Both points ran verbatim in the Instagram caption, and both are the seller’s words, carried as such. The listing photos show crystal scratching consistent with a working life. ShopGoodwill items are untested beyond what the seller states and sold as-is.
Why it matters
Most vintage Seiko 5s trade on looks alone. The DX trades on a movement distinction that is invisible in a thumbnail: pull the crown and the seconds stop; the day-date quicksets instead of winding through midnight by hand. That is why this reference is hunted by name while cosmetically similar Seiko 5s sit. Finding one correctly titled, honestly described as a non-runner, and still at $50.50 with a day to run is the Finds lane working as intended — the value is in knowing which Seiko 5 this is.

What to check before bidding
- Not working means a service is the real price. The seller says so plainly. A 6106 service belongs in the bid before the bid itself.
- Missing links change the fit. The band is short a few small connecting links. Check the listing photos against your wrist size; period Seiko links are findable, not free.
- The hacking is the premium — verify it at service. The DX premium rests on the 6106’s hacking and quickset. A watchmaker confirms both in minutes; until then they are the reference’s specification, not this watch’s tested state.
- Crystal scratching is visible, not hidden. The listing photos show it. On a sunburst dial the crystal is the view — decide whether a polish or replacement is in your plan.
