Western workwear is mostly heritage styling now. This is a working pattern, still being refined for people who climb.

What it is
Tobi trousers are the uniform of Japanese scaffolders — cut with a huge, free thigh so the leg can climb, and a tight calf that won't snag. Toraichi is the maker the trade itself wears. The 2530-418 “Chōchō Long Happō” is the extreme of the pattern: 39.3cm of thigh at a 70cm waist, up to 50.8cm on the larger sizes, all of it disappearing into a zippered calf.

Why it matters
Western workwear is mostly heritage styling now. This is the live article — a pattern still being refined for people who work at height, sized from 70 to 120cm waists, sold by the maker's own store for under ten thousand yen. As a piece of design in plain sight, nothing in a fashion catalogue is doing more work per seam.

What to check before buying
- The silhouette is the commitment. The thigh volume is real workwear geometry. Look at worn photos — ideally on a person, not a catalogue flat — before ordering.
- Size by waist in centimetres from the maker's chart; the thigh scales with it dramatically.
- Maker's store vs street price. Both figures above are real; the street listing was the cheaper route at the time we spotted it.
